Weekly update 2- Shooting plan

This week I plan to do my first shoot with Samantha Green on Tuesday 28th October. I will shoot all her scenes which will take place in tourist sites in Central London, public streets and an apartment in Dagenham Heathway. The shoot will begin at 12pm and take place throughout the day. We will be travelling by train and walking to our destinations. Due to having one actor on this date, I will only focus on the scenes where she is alone, in order to leave the remaining scenes to shoot with my actor Danny at a later date, who is playing Luke. Samantha will have her costumes with her, and she will use public toilets for her to change into for the various scenes. The shoot should be finished by latest 6pm in the evening as there are not many scenes to shoot with her. I will also book the final shoot for both by actors on Sunday 9th November.

Weekly update 1

This week I  managed to book a lunchtime in the studio to  begin recording the voice over of Faith, with my actress Samantha Green. I directed her through the process as she read each verse, indicating to her how I wanted each line to be said. I have now completed the recordings which will play over the footage once I begin filming. With this I added the sound to my music which I have also found, called, Cold, by Jorge Mendez, to gain an insight to the type of feeling it brings. As a result, I am happy with the current sound and style being followed, and I have also had positive feedback from classmates and teachers.

Narrative Theorist- The Break of Faith

My production, ‘The Break of Faith’, is a Drama Thriller. This genre often consists of a narrative that shows a chain of bad events, which I have incorporated following the theorist, Tzvetan Tordorov, who focuses on the equilibrium(the balanced state), the disruption of the equilibrium(the problem the character faces) and the restored equilibrium, where the problem is solved and the balanced state is restored. The disruption of the equilibrium is a main aspect that a drama thriller uses to keep the audience intrigued and uncertain, as the text often revolves around that issue. I will incorporate this by editing the fragments in the style of Tordorov, as the layout of the sequence will be linear and consist of various scenes following the relationship between the two characters., however, the mood will be altered when the relationship suddenly becomes abusive.

The semiotic of the sudden dark theme is an important factor as it will act as the disruption, which will then lead to the mystery element. Furthermore, my narrative also follows the theorist, Roland Barthes, as I will use a reverse edit at the end of the sequence, to the very beginning where my characters first meet. This will make the timeline distorted and abstract, which I think works well as it will make my audience think deeper about the meaning behind the production. It will not overcomplicate the sequence, but only fit well into the narrative as Barthes focuses on the meaning of text, and acknowledges that they are discovered differently by audiences. This is my aim as I understand the genre and style of my production covers a very sensitive topic.

Furthermore, this has influenced my age certification of 15+, as my audience will have to be at a fairly mature age to understand the intensity of the production, and follow the functional and dysfunctional narrative layout.  Barthes also focuses and highlights the mystery element within films, which I believe takes an interest to the majority of those above the age of 15 as they are more willing to be challenged and remain intrigued.

Synopsis

Faith, who is a writer, meets a man called Luke, whom she begins a journey with. As her fate puts her in the eyes of him, she opens up to him after they begin to talk shortly, and find they share similar interests in books and find a lot in common, soon developing a serious relationship. The story follows the couple as time goes on as they begin dating, and committing to each other completely once she moves in with him. However, things turn dark when he loses his job and begins drinking more. As Faith and Luke create memories together, and reach deep lows, Luke’s true colours begin to show, and Faith begins to see a side to him she has never known.  Can Faith’s soul be restored as she questions whether she’d do it all over again in order to relive her happiest moments with Luke?
